Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the red dragon fruit peels (Hylocereus polyrhizus) extract on the growth of Salmonella pullorum. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Veterinary Faculty, University of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh. Red dragon fruit peels that used in this study is obtained from  ripe fruit and Salmonella pullorum cultures is  obtained from  Microbiology Laboratory of Veterinary Faculty Unsyiah. Salmonella pullorum culture added evenly on the surface of Mueller Hinton Agar, the number of the bacteria have been standarized using Mc Farland'1 method. Discs soaked in the red dragon fruit peels extracts at different concentrations (20 mg/ml, 40 mg/mL, and 60 mg/ml). Ampicillin is used as positive controls and DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) was placed on the surface of Mueller Hinton Agar. The parameters in this study is the inhibition zone diameter. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the red dragon fruit peel extract is able to inhibit the growth of Salmonella  pullorum and the average of  inhibition diameter zone at a concentration 60 mg / ml is 9.6 mm, 40 mg / ml is 9.4 mm and 20 mg / ml is 9.3 mm

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out total erythrocytes count and hematocrit value of aceh and bali cattle in Leumbah Seulawah, Aceh Besar. Ten aceh cattle (5 males and 5 females with the age of 2.5-3.0 years) and ten bali cattle (5 males and 5 females aged 2.5-3.0 years) from Leumbah Seulawah, Aceh Besar were used in this research. Blood samples approximately 3 cc were collected by venoject through jugular vein. Erythrocyte counts were performed using a hemocytometer and hematocrit value were performed by microhematocrit method. The average of erythrocyte counts of male and female aceh cattle were 7.75 ±1.86 and 7.34±0.73 (106/mm3) respectively, while male and female bali cattle were 5.49±0.88 and 4.89±0.53 (106/mm3) respectively. Hematocrit value of male and female aceh cattle were 32.8±3.70 dan 32.6±207% respectively, while male and female bali cattle were 27.4±3.00 and 25.8±1.30% respectively. In conclusion, erythrocytes count and hematocrit value of aceh cattle show significant difference (P0.01) from bali cattle.Key words: erythrocytes, hematocrit, aceh cattle, bali cattle

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to detect the existence of the Streptococcus sp bacteria in the horses’ dental caries in Aceh Tengah Regency. The caries samples used in this study were taken from 8 horses in Aceh Tengah Regency. The samples were collected using swab on the teeth and then put into Nutrient Broth (NB) media and further were cultured on selective media TSY20B. The bacteria identification was conducted by observing the bacteria’s morphology, Gram staining and biochemical test. The eight samples of the horses’ dental caries showed that Streptococcus sp bacteria could be isolated from all of the collected samples. From this research it could be concluded that Streptococcus sp bacteria was found in the horses’ dental caries and it was one of the causes of the dental caries.

Abstract

This research has purposes to isolating and identifying the lactic acid bacteria genus Pediococcus in sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) feaces. Feaces are isolated from one orangutan at Kandi Zoo and two orangutans at Kinantan Zoo. The isolating of the lactic acid bacteria was done by using streak plate method with the MRSA (de Man Rogosa Sharpe Agar) specific media. Identification was done by the morphological observing, Gram stain, catalase test, oxidase test and biochemical test. The result showed that one isolate feaces from Kandi Zoo has cocci shaped with the isolate prediction approaches genus Pediococcus sp. The characteristic features of isolate are cocci shaped, Gram positive, tetrad cell structure, nonmotile, catalase negative, and oxidase negative. Based on these characteristics, it can be concluded that there is a lactic acid bacteria coloni which grouped into genus Pediococcus in male orangutan feaces from Kandi Zoo

Abstract

This research aim was to determine the level of bacterial contamination of Salmonella sp on quail egg. The samples used in this research was 24 shell of quail eggs obtained from eight stores in traditional markets in Ulee Kareung Banda Aceh. The shell was crushed with a mortar and then cultured on SCB media (selenite cysteine broth). Isolation and identification was conducted by using SSA media culture, Gram staining, and biochemical tests. The results of this research showed that the shell of quail eggs contained Salmonella sp. Therefore it can be concluded that the quail eggs sold in Ulee Kareung traditional market were contaminated by Salmonella sp.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the total amount of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) contamination in beef sold in traditional market in Banda Aceh. Total of 16 beef samples were used in this research, 2 samples from Beurawe market, 10 samples from Peunayong market, and 4 samples from Seutui market. Samples were cultured on manitol salt agar. The number of S. aureus colonies was calculated using colony counter, and the result was compared to the limit of microbial contamination based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The result of this research showed that the highest level of S. aureus contamination was derived from Beurawe market. It is concluded that all beef sold by seller from traditional market in Banda Aceh were contaminated by S. aureus.Key words: Staphylococcus aureus, meat, traditional market, number of contamination

Abstract

Entrerococcus faecalisis one of oral normal flora that has the ability to invaded into the tubules dentin and able to survive in acidic and alkaline environments within the root canal.Bay leaves is one kind of medicine antimicrobial plant that have chemical constituents such as tannins, flavonoids, essential oils, steroids, saponins and alkaloids.The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of water stewed of leaves at the concentration of 50%, 75% and 100% of the bacteria Entrerococcus faecalis. Entrerococcus faecalis that have been cultured in CHROM VRE Base Vorcomicyn was incubated at 37°C anaerobically. Entrerococcus faecalis that have been cultured and identified exposed to the bay leavesstew water by standard plate count method on MHA. The results of statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA available the value of p = 0,000 (p 0,05), so can be concluded that stew water bay leaves has effect on Entrerococcus faecalis growth. The effect of Stewed Water Bay Leaves on Enterococcus faecalis was increased, by increasing it’sconsentration 50%, 75%, and 100% in a row. Keyword: Antibacterial, Entrerococcus Faecalis, Stew Of Bay Leaves

Abstract

Oral candidiasis is a fungi infection disease in oral cavity caused by overgrowth of Candida albicans. Tamarind leaf (Tamarindus indica Linn) is herbal plant contains flavonoid, saponin, tanin, alkaloid, and triterpenoid that could be use as alternatif medicine for candidiasis theraphy. This study aimed to assay effect of tamarind leaf on Candida albicans growth. Tamarind leaf was extracted using soxhletasion methode. Antifungal activity of tamarind leaf on growth of Candida albicans was assay by counting colony in different consentration of tamarind leaf using Concentration (10%-100%). Statistic result of ANAVA using data showed that tamarind leaf had effect on Candida albicans growth.Keywords: Candidiasis, Candida albicans, Tamarind leaf

Abstract

Abstrak PDAM BNA Amuntai adalah unit penyedian air bersih di Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Utara yang melayani penyediaan air bersih untuk keperluan masyarakat tiga kecamatan yaitu Amuntai Utara, Selatan dan Tengah. Laju angka pertumbuhan di tiga kecamatan ini membuat kebutuhan air bersih semakin bertambah setiap tahunnya. Pengadaan air bersih untuk masyarakat bertujuan agar lapisan masyarakat menjalani pola hidup sehat.Untuk mengetahui jumlah kebutuhan air bersih pada tahun tertentu, menggunakan analisis proyeksi penduduk dengan standar kebutuhan air bersih berdasarkan panduan Kementrian PU. Menghitung ketersedian air disungai Balangan (debit andalan) menggunakan analisis data klimatologi dan data bangkitan hujan menggunakan metode mock. Hasil analisis jumlah penduduk di tiga kecamatan layanan PDAM BNA Amuntai pada tahun 2049 berdasarkan hasil proyeksi penduduk sebanyak 154.972,2 jiwa. Dengan layanan 90% kebutuhan masyarakat terhadap air bersih layanan PDAM BNA Amuntai pada tahun 2049 sebanyak 771.843,38 m³/bulan. Hasil analisis debit andalan ketersedian air baku sebanyak 12.933.464,72 m³/bulan. Sehingga persentase kebutuhan air bersih sebesar 5,97%. terhadap ketersedian air baku di sungai. Abstract PDAM BNA Amuntai is a clean water supply unit in the North Hulu Sungai Regency that serves clean water for the needs of the community of three sub-districts, namely North, South and Central Amuntai. The rate of growth in these three sub-districts makes the need for clean water growing every year. The provision of clean water aims to ensure that the layers of society live a healthy lifestyle. Analysis of population projections with clean water requirements based on the Ministry of Public Works guidelines to calculate clean water needs. Calculating the availability of water in the Balangan river (mainstay discharge) using climatological data analysis and rainfall generation data using the mock method. The results of the analysis of the population in the three sub-districts of PDAM BNA Amuntai service in 2049 based on the projection of the population of 154,972.2 people. With 90% service, the community's need for clean water services at PDAM BNA Amuntai in 2049 is 771,843.38 m³/month. The results of the main discharge analysis of the availability of raw water were 12,933,464.72 m³/month. So the percentage of clean water needs is 5.97%. towards the availability of raw water in the river

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak daun kelor (Moringa oleifera L.) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus  aureus. Ekstrak daun kelor diekstraksi dengan cara maserasi yaitu menggunakan pelarut etanol  96%. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi agar  menggunakan kertas cakram yang  telah direndam dalam ekstrak etanol daun kelor dengan konsentrasi 20%, 40%, 60% dan 80% pada media Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). Parameter yang diukur adalah besarnya diameter zona hambat yang  terbentuk disekitar kertas cakram. Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol  daun kelor memiliki daya hambat terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus  aureus yaitu pada konsentrasi 80% sebesar 14,02 mm (kategori kuat), 60% sebesar 12,03 mm (kategori kuat), 40% sebesar 9,00 mm  (kategori sedang), 20% sebesar 7,98 mm (kategori sedang), kontrol positif 28,63 mm  (kategori sangat kuat) dan kontrol negatif tidak menunjukkan efek antibakteri. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak daun kelor memiliki antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.                The aim of this research is to observe the antibacterial activity of Moringa oleifera L. extract on Staphylococcus aureus. Moringa oleifera extract was extracted by maceration using ethanol 96%. The antibacterial activity test was carried out using diffusion method used paper disc which has been soaked in etanol extract of Moringa oleifera with concentration of 20%, 40% and 60% on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). Parameters measured were the diameter of inhibition zone formed around the paper disc. The results of antibacterial activity test were analyzed descriptively. The result showed that etanol extract of Moringa oleifera had inhibitory on Staphylococcus aureus. Moringa oleifera extract had inhibitory on Staphylococcus aureus at concentration 80% was 14,02 mm (strong category), 60% was 12,03 mm (strong category), 40% was 9,00 mm (middle category), 20% was 7,98 mm (middle category), positive control was 28,63 mm (very strong category) and negative control did not show antibacterial effect. It can be concluded that Moringa oleifera L. extract has an antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus.
