Abstract: Improving the Ability to Write Poetry by Using Image Media for Students of Class VIII of SMP Negeri 31 Makassar. This study aimed to find out the right picture media in improving poetry writing skills of students of class VIII at SMP Negeri 31 Makassar. In this study, researcher used carefully selected media images to improve the poetry writing ability of students of class VIII at SMP Negeri 31 Makassar in teaching and learning activities that carried out for three months. The method used in this study was the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. This study used two cycles; each cycle consisted of four stages, namely: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Data collection techniques in this study were tests (poetry writing tests in the first cycle and poetry writing tests in the second cycle) and non-tests (teacher observation and student observation). The results showed an increase in students' writing abilities when using media images. During the preaction 11 students who responded were able to write poetry, when they did the ability to write poetry in cycle one it turned out that there were eleven students who wrote poetry reaching KKM, and when using picture media in cycle two the ability to write poetry increased to 22 students achieving KKM scores.Keywords: Improvement, Writing Ability, Picture Media
