Abstract

The research was conducted about the adsorption ability of activated carbon from banana trunk waste (Musa paradisiaca L.) toward benzene. The purpose of this research was to find out the characteristics and the adsorption ability of activated carbon from banana trunk waste in the form value of capacity in adsorption process. In this research, the production of activated carbon from banana trunk waste through stages of preparation and carbonization that was activated using H3PO4 solution. Then the carbon with SNI No. 06-3730-1995 was characterized and using Scanning ElectronMicroscopy (SEM) to find out the morphology of adsorbent. The result of analysis of SEM characteristics of activated carbon was the pores that were formed became larger. In addition, another analysis that was obtained namely 4.6% moisture content; 22.42% ash content; 24.14%volatile matter content; 48.74% bonded carbon content; 347.73 m2/g surface area and adsorption with I2 176.5 mg/g. At the optimum variations of the time of adsorption capacity value is equal1.692 mg/g.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang sintesis resin pengkhelat Polistiren divinilbenzena-dimetilglioksima dan kemampuan adsorpsi terhadap ion logam Ni(II) telah dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mensintesis resin PSDVB-dimetilglioksima. Sintesis resin pengkhelat Polistirene divinilbenzena-dimetilglioksima dilakukan melalui tiga tahap yaitu nitrasi, reduksi dan diazotasi. Pada tahap diazotasi terjadi reaksi kopling antara kation diazonium dengan nukleofil dari dimetilgliokisma yang dilakukan pada suhu 0-3ºC. Karakteristik dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode batch yaitu metode perendaman resin dalam larutan standar Ni(II) dalam waktu 24 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rendemen dari setiap tahapan sintesis adalah 60,7289%, 95,8940% dan 74,2254%. Resin pengkhelat hasil sintesis dikarakterisasi dengan spektrofotometer FT-IR yang menunjukkan perubahan bilangan gelombang 1350.17 cm-1 dan 1527.62 cm-1 yang merupakan pita serapan dari gugus N-O, bilangan gelombang 3448.72 cm-1 yang merupakan pita serapan dari gugus N-H dan bilangan gelombang 1627.92 cm-1 yang merupakan pita serapan dari gugus azo N=N. Karakteristik adsorpsi resin pengkhelat hasil sintesis terhadap ion logam Ni(II) menunjukkan persentase perolehan kembali mencapai 97,275%.

Abstract

Research about decreasing of BOD and TSS from waste in ketchup industry with Electrocoagulation method using Fe, Cu and Stainless electrode for decreasing BOD and TSS have been done. Time optimization based by color transformation from Electrocoagulation process have been done. The result of this research from the effect of time contact on Electrocoagulation process are showed the optimized time are 120 minutes whereas the transformation color into transparent color in 12 Volt using Fe-Cu electrode to the decreasing of BOD and TSS are 1800,6 mg/L ; 190 mg/L with the result of percent of elimination are 38,45% ; 68,85% whereas the value of starter of BOD and TSS are 2925,4 mg/L ; 190 mg/L.

Abstract

A research on the determination of a level of vitamin C in Red Dragon fruit syrup by conducting storage time variety have been done in normal condition so that it can be consumed. Analysis process has been conducted by Iodimetry titration method through the step of dragon fruit syrup made by the variety of storage time 0 until 20 days. The result showed that high level of vitamin C was 0.03136 % on the beginning day, and the low level was 0.00141 % on the 20th, therefore can be summaries that vitamin C on dragon fruit syrup product can last while 20 days only in the normal condition. Furthermore, for an organoleptic test of the dragon fruit syrup product can last on the beginning day until the day of 15th and on the day of 16th or more that respondents declare of dragon fruit syrup, product was not feasible to consumed.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Test of activated carbon adsorption ability of banana stem waste (Musa paradisiaca L) on toluen has been carried out. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize activated carbon to show the morphological differences in activated carbon after activation and before toluen adsorption using a UV spectrophotometer with variations in the time of adsorption and concentration. The optimum toluen adsorption time obtained on the adsorbent weight of 0.4 gram, the concentration of toluene 40 ppm was 45 minutes, then the absorbed toluene concentration was 61,75%. the adsorption capacity was 1,5438 mg/L and the optimum toluene concentration at 1 grams, 60 minutes adsorption time was 40 ppm. The concentration of toluene absorbed was 73,875%. Then the adsorption capacity was 0.07388 mg/L. Keywords: Banana Stems, Toluen, Adsorption, Adsorption Capacity.

Abstract

Modification of synthesis of nanoparticles with L-Cysteine functions as a capping agent/stabilizer, so that the nanoparticles can last longer. Modification of nanoparticle synthesis by adding L-Cysteine to AgNPs and homogenizing it using a magnetic stirrer. Modification of nanoparticles (AgNPs) was monitored by observing the visible uptake. The results showed that the absorbance value increased by indicating the concentration of L-cysteine 5×10-5; 6×10-5; 7×10-5; 8×10-5; 9×10-5; 1×10-4 and the volume of L-cysteine is 4 mL.
