Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is the pure oil from fresh coconut fruits, made with low temperature/without heating. This oil contains lauric acid of 48%, a type of MCFA (Medium Saturated Chain Fatty Acid). This fatty acid is easily absorbed in metabolism and produces energy, but does not induce cholesterol rise. The purpose of crude papain addition is to increase the hydrolysis rate of protein stabilized emulsion in coconut emulsion. The purpose of this research is to find out the optimum crude papain concentration and incubation temperature in VCO preparation. Experimental design employed in this research is Randomized Complete Design with 2 factors; i.e. crude papain concentration (0,02%; 0,04%; 0,06% and 0,08%) and incubation temperature (room temperature, 40 °C and 50 °C), each combination is repeated twice. The results of this research show that the optimum crude papain concentration is 0,06% and incubation temperature is 40°C.  In this condition, the yield of VCO is 49,07%, water content of 0,25 %, saponification number of 258,67 mg KOH/gram, free fatty acid content of 0,38%, iodine value of 8,36 mg/gram, peroxide value of 0,70 meq/kg, lightness (L) of 0,2; a* of 0,3 and b* of 2,0.Key word: VCO, crude papain, incubation temperature, enzymatic method

Abstract

Quarry dust (dust mine) is a non-plastic materials from the rest of quarry stone crusher machine in range size are  0 - 5 mm. Production of quarry dust in Indonesia is very abundant. A stone crusher in the maximum work can be produced quarry dust up to 4 tons per hour. The use of quarry dust now is still less optimal. Its only used as a filler in the surface layer of pavement. So that , there are more innovation in use of  quarry  dust  to balance between produce and use. One uses the quarry dust  isfor soil stabilization.Soil stabilization is the engineering effort to improve the quality of the soil is not good and improve the quality of the soil that has actually been quite good.In pavement structural design, not all subgrade base having a good CBR value, it was low in CBR rate and it must be replacement, repair or soil stabilization. This  experimental study was conducted  in Soil Mechanics Laboratory Departement Civil Engineering University Technology Yogyakarta. Object research aresoil water content  and soil density to determine the optimum soil water content. This amount water will added in to mixture of stone dust (quarry dust) 0%, 5%, 10%, 15 % and 20% and this variation test will be aging for 48 hours. Results this research indicates that5% quarry dust added to the mixture will gave the optimum CBR amounted to 26.20%. That amount represents an increase of 19.01% from the design CBR native land by 22%.

Abstract

In addition to consisting of an interesting story, a novel may consist of lessons to learn. V.S. Naipaul’s Miguel Street reflected realities of People in Trinidad. The cynical words in the novel tell how people live in poverty. It is not only a story of past events but also a valuable text to see and learn actual realities of education. There are two lessons that readers can learn from the words. First, what adult people do are lessons for the teenagers. When the adult show bad characters teach how to do bad conducts, the teenagers will easily see and do the same things. When the adults resort to violence in their families, the teenagers will resort to the same things outside homes. When the adults drink alcohol and consume drugs, the teenagers will try and do the same, or even, worse. They will run out of their homes and find other places to live. The matters will deteriorate when the teenagers do not have proper education. It is a threat of character education. Second, there are always heroes in communities. Parents are some of them. The heroes provide poor children and teenagers with proper education. They show that there is always a valuable thing to do in poor condition. It shows that poverty does not only supply threats of character education but also opportunities of it. The schools should conduct good education. The schools should educate mind and heart.
