Abstract

The impacts of exchange rate to an economy both domestically and internationally are an interesting discussion. One of the examples for discussion is exchange rate pass-through (ERPT). ERPT is defined as the rate of change of prices (domestic, imported or exported) as a result of change in exchange rate. Consumer price index (CPI) is one of the most frequent indicators used for measuring domestic price. This paper analyzes the impacts of exchange rate change (ERPT) to seven group of CPI in Indonesia. The Cholesky Decomposition is employed to identify structural shock of Structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR) which then combined with Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) for 48 time series units. The result shows that for the entire period there is an incomplete pass-through for the seven group of CPI. The largest effect occurs in the transportation and communication sector and food and beverages sector in which 35 percent of their changes in CPI are affected by change in exchange rate.

Abstract

This research examines capital structures or financial policy in Indonesia plantation firms with pecking order theory. Plantation firm was classified on status (listed and unlisted) and product (palm oil and non palm oil). Panel data methodology is used to test the empirical hypotheses over a sample of 22 Indonesia plantation firms during seven years period 2002 – 2008. The result of this research shows there is a significant cash deficit and product variables positively influence to increase long term debt. This evidence shows that pecking order theory used on financial policy and palm oil firms have cash deficit and long term debt more than non palm oil firms. In accordance to T test, there is a significant difference cash deficit and long term debt on firm status but long term debt only a significant difference on product firm.

Abstract

Free cash flow is viewed as performance parameter that’s more promising because it’s more transparent in presenting operational activity, investment, and company’s funding. Besides those advantages, there are two questions: (1) is the free cash flow able to become determinant against stockholders’ value and (2) are there other factors which affect it? This study took sample from 184 non-finance companies registered at Indonesia Stock Exchange period 2003 – 2010, using double regression analysis method. The result of this study shows that negative free cash flow, dividend, and leverage has significant influence against stockholders’ value.

Abstract

The main difference between contemporary Islamic monetary system and conventional monetary system is the replacement of interest system with profitand-loss sharing (PLS) system, which both have different behavior in influencing monetary stability. This study aims to analyze demand for money, conventionally and Islamically, in Indonesia and to determine the relationship between money supply in the two system and price level as the goal of monetary policy. Methods used are Vector Auto Regression (VAR) and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results show that PLS return negatively correlated with Islamic demand for money. In Islamic demand for money, the value of correction error is significant, so that there is an adjustment towards its long-term equilibrium. The Islamic demand for money stabilizes quicker to response the shock from other variables compare to that of conventional demand for money. Moreover, there is no cointegration between money supply, conventionally and Islamically, with price level, so that inflation targeting framework of monetary policy implemented by Bank Indonesia need to be reviewed.Kata Kunci : permintaan uang konvensional, permintaan uang Islam, sistem keuangan/perbankan ganda, VAR/VECM

Abstract

The economic development in Indonesia is divided into nine sectors and therefore requires a huge investment. As a result, the government (particularly local government) needs to determine the sectors that are expected to become push factors for other sectors to develop as the prime mover of development in reducing regional disparity. This paper aims to assess the level of developmental disparity between and within the regions of the Province of West Papua from 2005 to 2013, as well as the implementation of the role of the leading sector on the disparity of regional development. The research uses Theil Index, Location Quotient, and Shift Share Analysis approaches and shows that developmental disparity existed as the result of disparity in development regions and is affected by Teluk Wondama, Sorong, Raja Ampat and Fak-Fak regencies. In addition, the result shows that the agricultural sector has the largest influence on the GDP of West Papua over the period of 2005 to 2012. The study also found and recommends that leading sectors in each regency/municipality are an alternative strategy for local government to start development planning, where comparative and competitive advantages of those sectors can play the role of an “engine of growth” in reducing disparities.

Abstract

BPK audit report on a government financial report contains an opinion that is a professional statement of the auditor regarding the fairness of financial information presented in the financial statement. In forming opinion, a BPK auditor uses four criteria, namely the application of Government Accounting Standard, adequate disclosures, compliance of laws and regulations, and effectiveness of internal control systems. The unqualified opinion is issued to a financial report with no material statements and/or fraud.  However, it is widely reported that many irregularities still occur across government entities and cost the state’s resources (finance). This study aims to analyze corruption committed by heads of local governments and its influence on BPK opinion build a model which shows the relationship between them. This study uses a model called ordinal logistic regression and found that there is a correlation between BPK opinion with corruption committed by heads of local governments. The best ordinal logistic regression model shows that BPK opinion is dominantly influenced by the compliance of government financial report with Government Accounting Standard, compliance with law and regulations and effectiveness of internal control systems.

Abstract

An unexpected growth of slum settlement has been happening in most of Indonesian cities. “Kampung Braga” is one of the slum areas located in one of strategic areas in the centre of Bandung city. It is an enclave that lies along the side of Cikapundung river and surrounded by the tourism area. This research analyzed characteristics and untidiness level of “Kampung Braga”. The untidiness level assessment was based on dimensions (aspects) stated by Minister of Public Works and Housing’s Regulation no. 02/PRT/M/2016 regarding housing and slum area quality development: (1) building; (2) surrounding road; (3) water; (4) drainage; (5) waste management; (6) trash management; and (7) fire security. This research also formulated composite index that can be used in area quality assessment. The index consists of the following aspects or indicators: (1) The buildings’ density; (2) people’s density per lot; (3) availability of infrastructures and utilities; (4) availability of open public space; (5) inexpediency to area’s spatial planning; and (6) lot’s ownership. The index was determined or calculated based on weighted average of those indicators. The results show that(1) most of the residents are small (low scale) entrepreneurs in trading, with low level of education and income; (2)most of the buildings are under 45 m2, occupied by 8 people (mostly consists of 2 households), lie on high density location, and in improper condition; (3) Low level infrastructures (road, water, waste treatment facility, drainage, and green area); and (4)spatially, the buildings lie irrelarly, and some of those are also located at the bank of Cikapundung river. The overall condition is also reflected in the result of the quantitative assessment that the quality of “Kampung Braga” is categorized as “Very Low” which score of 0.25 (0.00 – 1.00 scale), and “Very High Slum” (score 88). Therefore, “Kampung Braga” needs to be transformed in order to enhance quality of the area, as well as people’s quality of life.
