Abstract

The people of Pulau Panjang, one of the islands in the South Bangka Regency, rely on capture fisheries for their livelihood. The problem in this area is the presence of non-economic by catch fish, including in districts with high early marriage rates, and the availability of vegetables that must be imported from other islands. Students of the Himpunan Kultur Akuatik carried out Village Development on Pulau Panjang to help solve the problem through aquaponics demonstration plots, counseling on early marriage, and joint activities. Counseling on early marriage and joint gymnastics was carried out with the enthusiasm of the residents, especially children. The aquaponics demonstration plot was successfully constructed using tarpaulin ponds and PVC pipes. The introduction of aquaponics was enthusiastically welcomed by the residents. Fish waste is used as fish feed. The demonstration plot management by the residents managed to start harvesting vegetables in the form of kale on the 27th day and reached a great harvest after 1.5 months. The success of the demonstration plot in vegetable production in an aquaponic system is expected to trigger the Pulau Panjang community to produce vegetables independently.

Abstract

Daphnia sp. is one type of zooplankton that is used as natural food. The potential for catfish culture waste from the biofloc system is not yet known as a source of nutrients in the culture of Daphnia sp. The biofloc system of catfish culture wastewater needs to be tested as a medium for Daphnia cultivation. This research method uses experimental methods, namely experiments and Completely Randomized Design (CRD) methods with 5 treatments and 3 replications, namely control treatment (clean water + chicken manure 5gram/liter), 75% clean water + 25% wastewater, 50% clean water + 50% wastewater, 25% clean water + 75% wastewater, and 100% wastewater. Nitzschia and Melosira from Class Bacillariophyceae and Copepods from Class Maxillopoda were identified in the waste. The use of catfish culture waste in biofloc systems with different concentrations affected the growth of Daphnia sp. Daphnia sp. cultivation media. with a concentration using 75% of the waste produced the highest growth peak on the twelfth day.

Abstract

Communities on the island of Bangka use soil ponds and floating net cages on ex tin mines lake for tilapia cultivation. Currently, the comparison of the productivity of the two cultivation system for Tilapia cultivation is not known. This study analyzed the business and productivity of tilapia rearing under floating net cages and soil ponds in Air Mesu Village, Pangkalan Baru District, Central Regency. The method used in this study is a survey method with case study techniques with data collection through interviews, questionnaires, and observations. Overall, the business of rearing Tilapia with the KJA system and soil ponds in Air Mesu Village is feasible to develop because the R/C ratio is >1. The use of the KJA system has an R/C ratio and greater productivity than the ground pool. Yield productivity of 25.12 kg/m2 in the KJA system and 19.52/m2 in the soil pond system.

Abstract

The one of Belitung Island’s native fish which has important economic value is Cempedik fish (Osteochilus spilurus). Its consumption, which still relies on natural catchments, requires a study of its biology and ecology. One of the studies that have never been studied in the maturity of this species is the relationship of fecundity with fish weight - length and gonad weight. This study used samples of Cempedik fish from the Lenggang River, East Belitung which were obtained randomly from the catches of fishermen. Sampling adjusts the fishing season that occurs in the rainy season. The preparation was carried out on whole fish using 4% formalin. Calculation of fecundity gravimetrically and compared with fish lengths and gonad weights in the graph. Fecundity in 2015 was 222 – 10,947 eggs and in 2016 there were 335 – 2,060 eggs. Fish body length and weight affected the fecundity of the 2015 fish sample but had no effect on the 2016 sample. This is predicted to occur due to differences in sampling time to position and rainfall in the rainy season, availability and suitability of natural feed, and changes in habitat quality. Gonadal weight correlated with fecundity, where the higher the gonadal weight, the higher the fecundity. Keywords: Cempedik, rainy season, maturity, fecundity.

Abstract

Extremophilic fish require genetic characterization to determine the identity of their species, their kinship, and the potential for genetic variation due to extreme environmental adaptation. DNA barcoding using Fish-F2 and Fish-R2 primers at an annealing temperature of 52oC for 15 seconds showed qualitative failure results in most fish species. For this reason, optimizing the annealing temperature in the PCR process is necessary to obtain DNA bands that correlate with successful identification. Fish samples were obtained from Ruai Silip, Bangka Island, Membalong, Belitung Island, and Way Kanan, Lampung, Sumatra Island. The annealing temperature optimization was set at 50, 50.4, 51.1, 52.3, 53.7, 54.8, 55.5, and 56°C. Five species of extremophile fish were tested, namely Brevibora sp, Barbodes binotatus, Rasbora bankanensis, Anabas testudineus, and Aplocheilus panchax. Extremophile fish showed differences in the appearance of DNA bands in PCR with different annealing temperatures. Brevibora sp showed a visualization of DNA bands at 54.8°C, Barbodes binotatus at 53.7, 54.8, 55.5, and 56°C, Anabas testudineus at 50 and 50.4°C, and Aplocheilus panchax produced clearly visible band on annealing temperatures.

Abstract

The Selincah fish (Belontia hasselti) is a local Indonesian fish that is widely consumed and has the potential to become ornamental fish. This fish must be domesticated to suppress its exploitation from natural catches. The domestication process requires biological information including eating habits. For this reason, in this study, the identification of phytoplankton contained in the stomach contents of the agile fish was carried out. Fish samples were obtained from Rawa Metukul, South Bangka Regency. The types of phytoplankton in the stomach and intestines of lively fish are the classes Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Chrysophyceae, Chrysophyceae. The most dominant species were found in the Chlorophyceae class with an Index of preponderance value of 42.42%, while the Chrystophyceae class was found at least 2.99%.

Abstract

Osteochilus spilurus is one of the native fish in Indonesia. This species from North Lampung has variations in body shape with populations in Bangka and Belitung. Morphological plasticity and genetic variation are potential causes of these differences. To confirm this, it is necessary to identify molecular using the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt b) gene. Fish samples from North Lampung had morphological characters that matched to the description of O. spilurus. This research specimen was registered at the Bogor Zoological Museum as a supplementary note from Lampung. The phylogenetic construction shows a closer relationship between fish samples from North Lampung and O. spilurus from Bangka-Belitung, but there is a wide genetic distance between them. Genetic variation between islands that occur is predicted due to differences in ancient river flows in the past and the geographical isolation of the oceans for thousands of years. Keywords: Cytochrome b; Lampung; Osteochilus spilurus; Genetic Variation
