Abstract

The objective of the present study was to investigate useful of Wedelia biflora leaves extracts as  anti allergic caused by dermatitis allergic in mice. A total of 24 males Wistar mices were utilized as experimental animal in this study. The experimental animals were divided into 4 groups, and each group has 4 mices. The first group was a control which was injected with aquades (negative control), while three other groups (group 2 to group 4) were fed with   Wedelia biflora extracts orally at doses of 20 g, 40 g and 60 g per kg body weight, respectively, and the fifth group was a positive control which was injected with 10% ovalbumin, and the last group was given antihistamin drug (Loratadine) as compared control. All of experimental animals were injected with ovalbumin on day 1, 7, and 21, except for  negative control  which were injected with distillated water. The ectracts of Wedelia biflora were fed for 21 days. The inflammation areas were measured using a digital caliper and analysis one-way Anova. The results showed that the treatment of Wedelia biflora were resulted in reducing inflammation size significantly (p0.05) where the dose of 60 g/kg body weight was given the best result compared to other doses due to this value equivalent to antihistamine drug loratadine. We concluded that Wedelia biflora leaves extracts had the anti allergic effect.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the histamine levels in repeated thawing beef. This research were using longisimus dorsi part (sirloin) of beef. Repeated thawing treatments of beef consisted of P1  as control without freezing, P2  as first thawing  after one week freezing, P3  as second thawing without freezing two weeks and P4 with freezing three weeks. The slices of beef was storage in freezer at temperature of -20ºC every weeks for three weeks. The thawing process was done by storage in refrigerator at temperature of 6ºC for 270 minutes after being removed from the storage in freezer every weeks for three weeks. PIC (Protease Inhibiting Cocktail) methode were used to extraction of enzyme in beef. Enzyme Link Imunosorbent Assay (ELISA) were used to detected the histamine levels with 450 nm wave length. The quantitative data from parameters were analyzed by descriptive. The results of the study concluded that repeated thawing beef in refrigerator at temperature of 6ºC could decrease the histamine levels.

Abstract

The aims of this experiment are to find out the effect of temperature stress and jaloh leaves supplementation on body weight gain, hematocrit level, and malondialdehid (MDA) content in the liver tissues of nila fish (Oreochromis niloticus). A total of 80 fishes with the weight of 40-50 gr were randomly allocated into 8 treatments. The treatments consisted of P1 (no heat stress and no jaloh leaves supplementation); P2 (no heat stress and 5% of jaloh leaves supplementation) ; P3 (no heat stress and 10% of  leaves supplementation); P4 (no heat stress and 15 % of  leaves supplementation); P5 (heat stress and no jaloh leaves supplementation); P6 (heat stress and 5% of  jaloh leaves supplementation); P7 (heat stress and 10% of  jaloh leaves supplementation); P8 (heat stress about 35 ± 1oC  for 4 h per day in 30 days and 15% of  jaloh leaves supplementation). The body weight was measured from 1d to 31d. Blood samples, lever tissues and statistical analysis were conducted on 31d. The results of the experiments indicated that supplementation of fish feed with jaloh leaves 5-15% had negative effects on body weight gain. On the other hand, supplementation of jaloh leaves 5-10% on commercial fish feed had positive effects on performances and immune system of experiment fishes

Abstract

Malaria still cause health problem in tropics including Indonesia, since its generate high mortality rate. Medication of Malaria has been performed long time ago without optimum result. One reason is the high rate of P.falciparum resistance on conventional antimalaria drug. This research aim to evaluate the activity of jaloh leaves extract (Willow leaves) on the inhibition of P.falciparum in vitro. This was a laboratory experimental research that using Indonesian isolates of cloroquin resistance P.falciparum obtained from NAMRU-2, Jakarta. P.falciparum isolate that has been synchronized were divided in to 3 groups of treatment : Jaloh leaves ethanolic extract, jaloh leaves ethyl acetate extract, and jaloh leaves n-hexane extract. Each group were then alloted into 5 dosage levels: 6,25ug/ml; 12,50ug/ml; 25,00ug/ml; 50,00ug/ml; and 100ug/ml. The observation of parasitemia degree were done 48 hours post-incubation in which the thick blood smear were colored with Giemsa and then examined using bioculer microscope. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA and Newman-Keuls test. The result showed that the percentage of P.falciparum growth inhibition were sinificantly different (P0.05) among treatments wherein ethanol extract and ethyl acetate extract more inhibit P.falciparum growth than the hexane extract. The administration of different dosage also resulted in significance different (P0.05) of P.falciparum growth inhibition. This research concludes that jaloh leaves extract could inhibit P.falciparum growth.
